There must be more to setting up outbound packet filtering on the Vista firewall than the article says, I followed the instructions exactly, I turned on Outbound filtering, created a new outbound rule allowing iexplorer.exe on all profiles and it has zero connectivity.
I turn outbound filtering off and it has full connectivity again.
I tried it with yahoo messenger allowing ymessenger.exe on all profiles and the result is the same. Yahoo messenger has zero connectivitly and cannot even log in untill I turn outbound filtering back off, it then regains full connectivity. |

It seems to work for me OK.
Click Start and type in Firewall, then click Windows Firewall With Advanced security. Click Outbound Rules on the left and there should be an entry for Internet Explorer (create a new outbound rule if it's not there). On my PC it says Profile=Any, Enabled=Yes, Action=Allow, then the program path and Any for all the other columns. If yours is different, double click the rule and change the settings.
This is probably the most complicated firewall around and there are simpler third party programs. However, it does work if you can get the hang of it. |
